Just Cut It

Today there was a lot of action at my house. The plumber came to fix the leaks in our shower and tub. Some of the tile had just collapsed, and every time we took a shower, there would be a puddle in the next room. I was pretty excited to have that fixed because it seemed to be a swamp in my bathrooms at all times. Then the kids would walk in, and since they never wear shoes here, their feet are just a little dirty. They would walk thru the puddles of water and then I would have mud. Some of you have experienced that, right?
Also here today, were some guy's to cut down about 3 dead trees in our yard. David was afraid that they would fall on the house during one of the many storms we are having lately. The plumbers were "so old news"...so the kids decided to go out and watch the trees being cut down. I stood out on the porch with them for awhile. One of the men came and asked me if I had a rope. I didn't have a big enough one, so I thought they would go and find one somewhere else. They didn't. The guy in the tree just tried to cut it at a certain angle so it would fall just where he wanted it to. Now, I'm no pro at cutting down trees, but I could see, from the view on my front porch that the angles weren't really....right. I could also see that it was heading right for us. I felt bad for the guy in the tree because he had all the guy's on the ground shouting at him to cut it this way and that and I think he was a bit kerflumuxed. I looked at the angle, I looked at the height of the tree, and I decided to move the kids to the back. I told the kids if they heard me yell, to run for their lives...to not look back or question. Right before the tree fell, the guy in the tree decided he really needed that rope. So, a helpful guy on the ground threw up an extension cord for him to use as a rope. The guy tied the cord around the tree. Right at that time, I got a phone call. For some reason, while I was on the phone, Elizabeth moved up to the front porch. Just as I hung up, I heard the cracking sound. The guy in the tree looked very fearful as the tree started falling, and he hadn't finished tying it up. It started falling right where I had predicted. Towards us. I saw Elizabeth just standing there watching...I screamed her name, and she turned around and came running. In slow motion, Elizabeth with a look of complete and utter terror on her face, running to me as the tree came crashing down behind her. It slammed to the ground (and onto the roof) and dead branches started flying up all around her. I thought for a moment that I was watching a movie. It looked like she was running from an explosion. It was super exciting. She got to me and wouldn't let go for a good long while. They cut down a couple more trees as well. They found a rope for the others, which is very interesting to me.
We're all just worn out from waaaay too much excitement....what with plumbers and wood cutters here all day.... and not allowed to use the shower or tub until tomorrow...which really stinks for all of us. Literally.
